To celebrate a new partnership between Land Rover NZ and the Hillary family, a limited-edition Discovery has been created to coincide with what would have been Sir Edmund Hillary’s 100th birthday, with only 20 vehicles available in New Zealand from July.

The Sir Edmund Hillary Edition delivers on all modern features that Land Rovers have become known for whilst also continuing with the original elements that ensure these vehicles are ready for adventure.

Land Rover NZ will be donating proceeds from the sales of the special edition vehicles to the Himalayan Trust, the non-profit humanitarian organisation which Sir Ed founded in the 1960s.

Proceeds from Land Rover NZ will be used to help provide access to safe, clean running water to hundreds of people living in the villages of Bubsa and Monjo in the Solukhumbu region - near Mount Everest.

Land Rover NZ general manager Steve Kenchington says the opportunity to support Sir Edmund Hillary’s work resonates strongly with his team.

“This initiative will make a real difference in the lives of many Nepalese, and we are privileged to help continue the work of this legendary New Zealander,” he says.

Kenchington says just 20 of the vehicles will be produced - each coming with a commemorative, uncirculated $5 note signed by Sir Edmund Hillary in 1993, as well as a $2,000 voucher for the Edmund Hillary clothing line.

The SUVs, which will retail at $169,900 plus on-road costs, are based on the Discovery Td6 HSE, but will have a wide range of off-road enhancements - including Active Locking Rear

Differential, All-Terrain Progress Control and Wade Sensing.

In addition to all standard features; a front recovery winch, customised badging, flared wheel arches, LED light bar and contrast accents will be added to this special edition model.

The limited-edition models will be available to purchase through Land Rover authorised retailers around New Zealand from this month.
